Working parts on a horizontal machining center, in order to compensate for tool changes and to have a barely acceptable cycle time, we placed more parts per cube and, being forged or cast parts, we had repeatability problems.
The main advantage we got with PORTA Production Method is the possibility of loading and unloading with robots, something impossible with a machining center without investing 20/25 times more for the construction of the equipment. This results in a substantial reduction in personnel.
Machine flexibility allows to better manage the ramp up and down of a part, unlike on a transfer machine where there are smaller batches and pre-series to do, at a high cost.
